While James doesn't care much for others, and is incredibly self indulgent, he will atleast be straightforward with his actions, unless he's trying to fight or 'incapacitate' you. While not particularly one for beating around the bush, in a fight his strong suit is his ability to read his opponent, while giving them as little information about himself as possible. He considers everyone an enemy until proven otherwise. He's also incredibly scared of technology, which shines through with his 'colorful' vocabulary.

If given space and time, James can widdle his opponent down with his magic. Likely never getting the time to do that, James uses his wits and terrain to try and keep his opponent at bay since he pretty much cannot take a hit. He'll avoid fighting if at all possible, and he'll talk circles around people to try and think of the best solutions for a quick victory. He tries to read people and anticipate their next move, so that he can better use his own power to defeat them. Or he'll just get Caroline to take care of them.
Smart/Perceptive: Being thousands of years old does give one a good pool of knowledge (excluding tech), and there is little that will go over Jame's head. With his smarts and previous experiences, James has a talent for being able to read someone's personality in just a few moments of meeting with them.
Undeath: Being a lich, James can technically never die again. While his physical form can be destroyed over and over, so long as his Phylactery is intact, he'll re-assemble/materialize near it. His physical form will disintegrate if he uses too much of his spirit's energy in the usage of his magic.
Fire Magic: James can use all different manner of fire-based magic. This includes as simple as a small ball of fire hovering over his head to act as a torchlight, to as complicated as a tornado of flames. The stronger the flame, the greater the exertion on him. All of James' fire is completely controlled by him, he can stop the fire whenever he pleases, or even change the direction that it will burn in. The lingering flames of his spells do take a tiny bit of his power to sustain, and while it's usually insignificant, James prefers to put out fires immediately unless it would benefit him to let the subject burn.
Immune to Pain: While damaging his Phylactery 'hurts' James on a level comparable to a flesh wound, it doesn't translate exactly to 'pain'. While his form may show the damage, and he may become more strained to sustain himself, it will not affect him outside of the physical limitations that are caused. Damage dealt strictly to his physical form and not his Phylactery have no affect on him, because there isn't a real 'arm' to be broken for example.
Physically Weak: His physical form is pretty much just something to tether him to the mortal realm and allow him to continue to exist as normally as possible. He has very little strength, if he had to try and pull himself up on a ledge it would be extremely difficult. His body 'breaks' very easily, but so long as his Phylactery is fine he does materialize within a few moments.
Magic Reliant: Though technically James will 'live' without being able to channel his energy, he'd be confined to his Phylactery. Any abilities that can sap his powers will have the added bonus of reducing him to a knife (and a couple of other objects) pretty quickly.
Holy/Magic Susceptible: Holy items, magic, or otherwise similar things have an extremely potent effect on James. This does give the small benefit of 'detection', as James will be able to feel the presence of such magical things. Magic abilities in general also have a higher level of potency against him, as it disrupts his physical form much more easily. While a fireball is already pretty effective, Jame's phyical form would completely melt in a few moments after contact, such is his weakness to magic.
Fire Magic and Energy: Whenever James uses any spell, it will cost him some of his soul's lifeforce, commonly referred to as 'energy'. This replenishes itself overtime, but being a lich is limiting. He cannot fully tap into his powers, as that could tear his soul from his Phylactery and consequently kill him (again), so he must give himself time in-between exertions to regenerate, which admittedly he regenerates this energy very fast. His spells are powerful still, but he will likely avoid using the 'heavy' stuff unless deemed absolutely necessary. Some examples of spells can be use are:
Conjure Lamp: A small, condensed ball of fire that projects a large light source, generally in a wide cone.
Fire-Blast: A small bolt of fire sent out at high speeds, and as hot as boiling water. James likes to toss these out like candy.
Flame-Serpent: A more complex spell, a small snake-like clump of fire. It's fairly slow, but has a substantial physical weight allowing it to actually ram or even bite things.
Fire-Ball: Everyone's favorite, a medium speed ball of flames that will explode in a small area upon making contact. Potent, but taxing.
Explosion: Centered on himself, James can create a large outward explosion of fire. While powerful, it alone shouldn't take someone out of a fight, this is more for the awe and crowd control effect.
Wall of Flame: A very complicated spell, James conjures a wall of whatever length he desires, and can manipulate it's shape and even cause it to 'explode'. The larger the wall, the more taxing it is on James, and it already is difficult to maintain for even a few seconds.
The Phylactery: An item that holds James's soul, used to keep him from death. While it is intact, James can materialize his body in any manner he chooses, within the confines of using his original size and humanoid form. Whenever damaged, not only will this be directly reflected on his physical form, but he will permanently become even weaker. It will be harder to use his magic, longer for him to regenerate his energy, longer for him to finish materializing, and at later stages of damage even harder to maintain his physical form. It is impossible for him to repair the Phylactery. The Phylactery is his butterfly knife, and he keeps it on his person so no one can steal it and hold it over him as leverage. He refuses to use it as a weapon, because he doesn't want to potentially damage it.
The Phylactery: A switchblade knife that holds Jame's soul.
